Unpaid Interest On Tenant Security Deposits
Under the Municipal Code of Chicago, landlords who hold security deposits or prepaid rent for their tenants are required to pay their tenants interest on these deposits annually by applying a credit to the tenant’s rent or by issuing them a check for the interest.
If your landlord has not provided you the appropriate credit or payment at the end of each twelve month period, or if your landlord has not returned your security deposit after you have moved out, please contact us to discuss your rights as you may be eligible to receive two times your security deposit plus the unpaid interest in damages.
